Conditions at HighPoint Health Center

At HighPoint Health Center, we see patients with a wide variety of pain, disease and injury.  Below we have listed some of the more common types of conditions that patients who visit our practice exhibit.  Our goal is to seek the underlying causes of these conditions so that we can not only provide quick and effective relief but to also prevent any re-occurrence in the future.

Autoimmune Disease

When the body mistakenly sees its own tissue as the enemy, it will literally attack and destroy its own cells! There are many reasons this happens and it is essential to find the triggers that make the autoimmune condition so devastating.

Some of the many symptoms of auto immune disease may include joint and muscle pain, abnormal weight loss or weight gain, insomnia, heat intolerance, rapid heartbeat, chronic fatigue, difficulty concentrating, abdominal pain or recurrent rashes. See our fill video to learn more about autoimmune disease!

Dizziness / Vertigo

There are varying degrees of dizziness/vertigo that range from short episodes to long-lasting ones.  Anyone who has had this condition knows just how debilitating it can be. Common causes of dizziness include one cerebellum firing stronger than the other (you have one on the right and one on the left), food allergies, how the eyes relay messages to the brain, a sluggish gall bladder and peripheral neuropathy.

Heartburn / Acid Reflux / Gerd

Acid reflux is considered to be one of the top 5 problems in this country. Heartburn happens when someone has less acid in their stomach, causing food to stay longer than it should before moving on to the small intestines. While the food lingers in the stomach it begins to ferment. The fermentation gives off acid which goes up to the chest. A patient feels heartburn from the undigested food, not from too much stomach acid. Quite the contrary – there is too little acid to digest what has been eaten! Read more about heartburn here.

Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy refers to nerve damage that causes damage to the outer body, most often the hands and feet. When the nerves are damaged, they cannot communicate fully with the brain and the result is pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms, hands, legs and feet. Heart Disease / Blood Pressure

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in this country. The heart works as a pump which sends blood throughout the body. When things go wrong, not enough blood leads to oxygen deficiency and toxic waste build up. Without proper blood flow, nerves cells die and so do we. Read more about heart disease here.

Sleep Disorders / Insomnia

The top 5 reasons for having sleep disorders include improper cortisol levels, digestive issues, over active mesencephalon (part of the brain), toxic overload and scar tissue. By pinpointing the direct causes of sleep disorders, Dr. Schick can map a course of treatment designed to combat the root of the problem. Read more about insomnia here.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is an increasingly common problem that debilitates suffering people and can devastate the families of those involved. Generally, fibromyalgia is diagnosed based on pain points throughout the body. For most people with fibromyalgia, it isn’t a matter of having good days and bad–it is bad days and less bad days because a person with fibromyalgia has had to learn to cope their way through life. See our full video to learn more about fibromyalgia.

Thyroid Disorders

The thyroid hormone is the key that goes into the ignition of the cell. That means virtually every cell of the body depends on thyroid hormone to turn it on and get its motor going.  Thyroid disorders are extremely common and mostly effect women.  The main symptoms include mental fogginess, weight gain, aches and pains, feeling bloated, nervousness, high cholesterol levels, heat intolerance and feeling cold. Weight Gain

Weight loss is a hormonal problem. Simply put, if you have more fat burning hormones than fat storage hormones flowing around your blood stream, you will absolutely lose weight. But if the opposite is true, you will gain. The three keys to getting your body ready to lose weight are to eat noninflammatory foods, keep your metabolism from decreasing as you eat less and staying detoxified. If your body is overly toxic you will not lose weight. We have an incredible program that successfully has helped many lose weight without a struggle based on these principles.
